Electron density measurement by differential interferometry

چکیده
A novel differential interferometer is being developed to measure the electron density gradient and its fluctuations. Two separate laser beams with slight spatial offset and frequency difference are coupled into a single mixer making a heterodyne measurement of the phase difference which is 1% of the total phase change experienced by each beam separately. This measure of the differential phase is made at multiple spatial points and can be inverted directly to provide the local density distribution. © 2006 American Institute of Physics. A new interferometry-based electron density fluctuation diagnostic on Alcator C-Mod.
The two-color interferometry diagnostic on the Alcator C-Mod tokamak has been upgraded to measure fluctuations in the electron density and density gradient for turbulence and transport studies. Diagnostic features and capabilities are described. In differential mode, fast phase demodulation electronics detect the relative phase change between ten adjacent, radially-separated (ΔR = 1.2 cm, adjus...
متن کاملDiagnostics of Dielectric Barrier Discharge at Atmospheric Pressure by Laser Spectroscopic Measurements
Spatial distribution of electron density inside parallel plate dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) is discussed in this presentation by using CO2-laser heterodyne interferometry measurement. This interferometry measurement has been used for low pressure plasmas and applied to DC microplasmas at atmospheric pressure recently. To derive the electron density inside pulsed plasmas like DBD, we used ...
متن کاملMeasuring the deposited energy from a non-ionizing laser beam in water by digital holographic interferometry
Digital Holographic interferometry is a powerful and widely used optical technique for accurate measurement of variations in physical quantities such as density, refractive index, and etc. In this study, an experimental digital holographic interferometry setup was designed and used to measure the amount of energy changes induced by absorption of radiation from a non-ionizing infrared laser beam...
متن کاملCore density gradient fluctuation measurement by differential interferometry in the helically symmetric experiment stellarator.
The interferometer system on the Helically Symmetric eXperiment (HSX) stellarator uses an expanded beam and linear detector array to realize a multichord measurement. Unlike conventional interferometry which determines the plasma phase shift with respect to a reference, directly evaluating the phase between two adjacent chords can be employed to measure the change in plasma phase with impact pa...
متن کاملDivertor interferometer diagnostic for ITER
In the harsh environment of the divertor region in ITER, plasmas spanning a huge density range from 1019 to 1022 m−3 are anticipated making measurement of the electron density particularly challenging. For any reasonable wavelength choice, the total phase measured by a conventional two-color interferometer system is always 2 and therefore subject to fringe counting errors. This problem can be r...
